It is frequently a condition of insuring a thatch and sometimes other period and listed buildings that CCTV Inspections are undertaken and the subsequent report is made available to the buildings insurance provider.
As HETAS and Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps registered, we are able to undertake such inspections. We do so regularly using our CCTV equipment, which is able to view and capture images inside the flue at different angles in order to get an accurate assessment of the condition from bottom to top.

Drone Inspections of Chimney Stack and Roof Area
In addition to the internal inspection, our drone technology allows us to perform a thorough examination of the chimney stack and surrounding roof area. While not usually required for insurance company reports (we do not carry out a drone inspection unless specifically requested to do so), this modern approach offers several additional benefits:
- Enhanced Safety: Using drones eliminates the need for people to climb onto the roof, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring a safer inspection process.
- High-Resolution Imaging: Our drones are equipped with high-resolution cameras that capture detailed images and videos of the chimney stack, roof, and surrounding areas. These images help identify external damage, structural issues, or any other concerns that you might have.
- Comprehensive Coverage: Drones can access hard-to-reach areas, ensuring that no part of your chimney or roof is left unchecked. This thorough inspection guarantees a complete assessment.
- Not just for chimneys. Of course a drone can be used for rapidly and easily assessing the condition of any roof or roofline area. Things we can spot are slipped or cracked slates or tiles. Damaged ridge tiles and flashings.
Our Inspection Report
After completing the inspection, we compile a detailed report that includes:
- A summary of our findings
- High-resolution images from the CCTV camera
- Identified issues and recommended repairs
- Any additional information required for insurance purposes
The report is emailed in a pdf format so that it is readily forwarded to your insurance company.
Our company information, including HETAS registration number, are included in the report header so that your insurance company can be certain the inspection has been carried out by a competent person.
